About the leader:

Matthias Beck studied mathematics and math education at the University of Würzburg (Germany), SUNY Oneonta, and Temple University, and after postdoctoral positions at Binghamton University (SUNY), the Mathematical Sciences Research Institute, and the Max Planck Institute for Mathematics, is now a professor at San Francisco State University. His research is in discrete & computational geometry, and numerous of his publications involved collaborative research with undergraduate and graduate students. Matt was one of the co-directors of the San Francisco Math Circle for about 10 years, as well as the PI of an NSF GK-12 project at San Francisco State, which supported graduate students and K-12 teachers in their education, research and outreach activities (including the San Francisco Math Circle). Matt was honored with the Mathematical Association of America’s Haimo Award for Distinguished College or University Teaching of Mathematics in 2013. He has enjoyed visiting many math and teacher circles over the last two decades.
